Benefits of Juvederm
Because it is created from hyaluronic acid, Juvederm has many advantages over other dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in your body already, so the chances of adverse reaction are extremely low. While collagen injections were once a popular option for creating fuller lips, they last shorter and come with more complications than Juvederm.
Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm add shape, structure, and volume to your lips—everything you need to achieve those full, movie star lips that will be the envy of your friends and family. After the injection, the filler gets to work reshaping and supporting your lips until they are transformed into something new and beautiful.
Here are some of the specific benefits of choosing a hyaluronic acid filler for your lip augmentation:
Long-lasting. While no dermal filler is going to be permanent, Juvederm injections often last 9 to 12 months, significantly longer than many other lip fillers.
Fast. Lip filler injections are usually very fast and involve little to no recovery time. You’ll usually be able to immediately return to regular activities.
Volume Control. As an injectable filler, Juvederm provides maximum control to Nualla as she completes the procedure. This makes it much easier to decide just how full you want your lips to be. While some might be of the opinion that the fuller the better, it’s important to keep in mind the proportions of your other facial features to truly decide your ideal lip volume.
Low Allergy Chance. Your body is unlikely to react adversely to hyaluronic acid because it already occurs in the body. However, be sure to let us know if you have an allergy to lidocaine, as some forms of Juvederm contain this numbing agent.
Minimal Bumps and Bruising. Dermal fillers can often cause swelling or bruises, but Juvederm may reduce these side effects. Furthermore, some fillers can lead to unnatural bumps, but these are easily dissolvable with Juvederm because it is based in hyaluronic acid.
Lip Filler Procedure Overview
The goal of your Juvederm injection is to achieve full, plump lips with a quick non-invasive procedure that incurs very little downtime. Prior to the treatment, you may receive a topical numbing agent or a nerve block to numb the lips prior to injection. Additionally, some Juvederm fillers contain lidocaine for additional numbing. The feeling will be very similar to being numbed for dental work. General anesthesia is not usually used for lip fillers because the procedure is very simple and does not take very long.
Once your lips are numbed, you will receive an injection of the Juvederm through one or more very small needles. Nualla, our expert nurse injector, can control the amount of filler used in order to achieve the results you’re looking for. The actual procedure should take a matter of minutes, and you’ll be up and running again in no time. The effects should be almost immediate, and you’ll leave the office with brand new lips to pucker up.
Preparing For Your Lip Filler Procedure
As with most procedures, you should avoid taking NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen, aspirin, and other anti-inflammatory drugs). Otherwise, there are no serious preparations you need to take other than consulting with us about your past medical history—particularly relating to the history of cold sores, diabetes, and other conditions that might interfere with your lip filler procedure.
We’ll also consult with you beforehand to learn exactly what you want your lips to look like. Bigger is not always better, and biggest is definitely not best. There are many features that make up gorgeous lips (see our guide below) and finding the best ones to accentuate the rest of your face is an important preparation. Prior to your lip filler procedure, we’ll listen to your needs and determine the best way to shape the lips of your dreams.
Lip Filler Recovery
Lip fillers are jokingly referred to as a lunchtime treatment because of how minimal the recovery is. Even better, unlike some cosmetic treatments, you’ll notice results as soon as the procedure is complete. You may experience swelling for up to 24 hours following your lip filler injections, but this can be mitigated with a simple icing. Most patients can return to their normal routine immediately, while some may rarely need to wait until the next day.
Your new luscious lips should last for at least 6 months, but maybe even up to 12. Follow-up injections may be necessary to maintain the desired appearance.
Are Lip Fillers Right For Me?
Sometimes our lips are just naturally thin and need an extra boost to help us achieve our ideal look. Other times, aging causes lips to lose some of the pucker they once held. Whatever the cause, lip fillers are an excellent option for healthy adults looking for the plump, voluptuous lips so common to the silver screen.
However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind to determine if you are a good candidate for our Juvederm injections. If you’ve had cold sores any time in the past, or if you suffer from lupus, diabetes, or any blood clotting conditions, it’s important to let us know so that we can determine if lip fillers are safe for you.
Otherwise, lip fillers are a great option if you are looking to do any of the following to your lips:
- Create a semi-permanent outline similar to lip liner
- Reduce wrinkles and aging lines around the lips
- Raise drooping corners of your mouth
- Revitalize your lips to look fuller, plumper, and healthier
- Add shape and depth to excessively thin lips
- Repair imperfections in your lips
- Suitable for anyone unlike some plastic surgery procedures
All of those and more can be yours with a lip filler session with Juvederm. So if you are looking to repair, revitalize, and re-envision the beauty of your lips, we are here for you.
Why Do I Have Thin Lips?
Maybe you used to have thick, plump, movie star lips and they’ve deflated over time. Or maybe your lips have always been pretty thin. There are several causes of thin lips, and all of them can be reversed with Juvederm lip filler.
Age
Full lips are a product of naturally occurring collagen and hyaluronic acid within your body. When you are young, both of these elements are in higher supply, which is why we tend to associate a plump pucker with youth. Collagen and hyaluronic acid work together to ensure your lips are full, moist, and smooth.
As you age, your body doesn’t produce as much of either substance, so those lips that were perfectly kissable in your twenties and thirties might look a little worse for wear as you advance in years. The good news, though, is that Juvederm is made from hyaluronic acid, and a professional lip filler injection can restore that voluptuous lusture to your lips that’s been lost over time.
Genetics
Your genes determine the size, shape, and fullness of your lips. Some of us are doomed from birth to have thin lips, but modern medicine can make a blessing out of this curse. Lip fillers don’t discriminate, so whether your genes gave you thin lips or thick, Juvederm can make them perfectly plump.
Lifestyle
Believe it or not, your everyday habits also contribute to the health of your lips. Smoking, for example, is one of the fastest paths to unwelcome lip lines. Drinking out of straws regularly can have the same effect while also degrading the naturally existing collagen that keeps your lips full. Even your dental health contributes to your lip health. Your teeth give structure to your lips, so neglecting your dental care can actually lead to premature lip thinning.
If you’ve been guilty of any of these bad habits, don’t worry. Fillers can undo the damage and even make your lips more gorgeous than they were before.
What Makes Lips Attractive? A Guide to Luscious Lips
Since you’re already interested in receiving lip fillers, you may be interested in exactly what it is that makes one person’s lips attractive over another. Well, one study published in the Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery sought to answer that exact same question. The researchers surveyed some 1,000 respondents the world over and discovered that there really is a universally accepted standard for beautiful lips.
Survey respondents were presented with images of lips with varying ratios. In some, the top lips were fuller. In others, the bottom. But the lips that were rated the best by 60% of those surveyed had a perfectly even top to bottom ratio of 1 to 1. That means that the perfect pout is one with complete symmetry between the top lips and the bottom lips.
A Juvederm injection, therefore, could be the extra weight to balance the scales on your lips. Top lips too thin? Bottom lips feeling flat? Lip fillers can help even them out so that you can pucker up with pride.
But symmetry isn’t the only factor in achieving beautiful lips. We use our lips almost every moment of every day. Whether we’re smiling, eating, talking, kissing, or even breathing, our lips are being put to work. It’s no wonder that they crack, wrinkle, or otherwise lose their shape. So it’s worth understanding all of the pieces that go into a gorgeous pair of lips. Let’s take a look at some of the other common elements to enviable luscious lips.
Vermillion Border
The vermillion is a fancy name for the colored portion of your lips. The border where the vermillion meets the flesh colored part of the lips is a key factor to your lips’ overall definition. Often as we age, the border thins out and loses depth, leaving your lips without the stark contrast that sets them apart from the rest of your face. Perfect lips have a well-defined vermillion border that helps highlight the beauty of your lips.
Philtral Columns
Your philtral columns are the raised lines that lead from your mouth to your nose (forming the border of what is known as the philtrum). Some people have naturally flat philtrums, while others lose shape as they age. Ideal philtral columns are pronounced enough to accentuate the rest of the lips, and an appropriately administered lip filler can do wonders to return youth to this subtle feature of your beauty.
Cupid’s Bow
The cupid’s bow refers to the topmost curve of your upper lip. Of all the features that give definition to your lips, the cupid’s bow is perhaps the most impactful. The ideal upper lip is shaped just like a bow, with a stark dip in the middle. Curves are simply aesthetically appealing, and a well-defined cupid’s bow is the surest way to add curves to your lips.
Lip fillers can achieve this envied look, but the final shape can make or break your lip augmentation procedure. That’s why it’s important to see a professional who’s already helped countless patients achieve the lovable lips of their dreams.
Upward Tilted Corners
When we think of perfect lips, corners tilted upward are one of the first images that comes to mind. There’s just something about lips that are naturally inclined towards smiling that strikes onlookers as pleasing to the eye. A lip filler can help you achieve this most sought after of looks.
Smooth Texture
The texture of your lips is just as much a part of your sex appeal as the texture of your skin. Smooth lips are kissable lips. Over time, through age or environmental factors, our lips can become damaged, cracked, or wrinkled.
The presence of vertical lip lines throughout the lip surface is a sure sign of aging, and anyone looking for the perfect pout should take steps to smooth them out. Juvederm can do exactly that, and following your lip filler treatment, you’ll be confident to pucker your lips with the best of them.
Schedule Your Lip Filler Today
There is a lot that goes into gorgeous lips. Definition, curve, contour, texture, and more. And age and the elements are constantly wearing away at your every attempt to keep yourself beautiful. Your lips thin out, they crack, lines form, and the overall texture flattens.
But these changes don’t have to be permanent.
You can have the lips that your smile deserves. You can achieve that movie star cupid’s bow, those enviable upward corners, that well-defined vermillion border, and the kissable line-free smoothness that we all associate with perfect lips.

FAQ
What is the downtime?
Down time is little to none. Some patients may experience light swelling and bruising but it should die down quickly. The use of ice on the area, wrapped in gauze or a towel will help alleviate this.
How long does it last?
Volbella lasts about 9-12 months depending. Since we are constantly using our lips it can dissipate faster then fillers in other areas of the face.
Is it painful?
We provide a topical numbing agent to help with any discomfort, and as the Volbella is injected into the lip it also injects a numbing agent to help you not feel anything!
