Getting a facial filler for the first time can be an exciting prospect. It has the potential to eradicate those fine lines and wrinkles that prematurely age your face. It can even be used to plump up and create a more defined shape for your lips. Overall, these fillers are designed to help reduce the volume loss that naturally comes with age. You should be excited at the prospect of radically but naturally changing your image with a non-invasive procedure, but what do you need to know first?
You should come to the consultation prepared for what you can expect from your first facial filler. Here are a few of the things that you should know before your first time.
The results aren’t going to be immediate
Once you receive your injections, you will be able to see some of the results almost immediately. It does take time for the filler to settle down and give you a glimpse at the semi-permanent results though. The amount of time it takes for you to see the results after things settle will depend on the type of filler that is used. Some of them will take just two weeks while others can require up to six weeks for the changes to be apparent.
Fillers are only semi-permanent
Many people believe that the fillers we use are going to be a permanent solution to their appearance woes. While they do last for a long time, you will have to continue to get touchups on your filler injections. The most common ones we use can last anywhere from three months to 24 months. After this point, you will need to have them redone in order to achieve the same beautiful results.
Look for fillers that are dissolvable
What happens if you get your fillers but aren’t happy with how they look? You don’t want to be stuck with your new appearance for another two years while you wait for the filler to fade. Instead, you should look for hyaluronic acid fillers that can be dissolved with a second injection if you aren’t happy. This gives you a little more peace of mind that your choice to use facial fillers is indeed reversible. They also naturally dissolve and break down over time, leaving you with a slightly more natural substance as a facial filler.
Only use FDA-approved fillers
Not all facial fillers on today’s market are approved by the FDA. Make sure that your doctor only uses the very best quality options for your injections. Insist on using these approved brands. If your doctor refuses to comply with your requests to use FDA-approved items, then you may need to find another doctor. Our office uses all products by Allergan- all are FDA approved.
