Immediate lift – no knife! The Latest on Non-surgical Face lifts
By: Dr. Nathan Newman
The thread lift is a non-surgical face-lift. Special modified suture threads are used to lift the droopy tissues of the face under local anesthesia, without a knife, and with minimal to no down time. There are different versions of threads being used to achieve this non-surgical face lift. They are the Feather Lift™ (developed in Russia), the Contour ThreadLift™ (FDA approved), the LoopLift™, the Anchor Lift (developed by Dr. S. Eremia), and the modified threads that I have developed for my patients.
Who is a thread lift candidate?
Good candidates are those patients who wish to correct droopiness of brows, cheeks, laugh-lines, jowls or neck, without the risks associated with a surgical brow lift, face lift, or neck lift.
How does it work?
The thread lift procedures use suture materials that have been specially modified to have a hook-like effect. These special threads are strategically placed into the deep tissues using a hollow bore needle or instrument. Once inserted into the desired location, the needle instrument is removed and the cogs on the threads are used to lift the tissues into the desired location on the brow, cheek, jowl and neck. At the completion of the procedure, excess threads are cut and removed. The lift effect is seen immediately.
The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia and, once the area is numbed, there is no pain. Some patients however, prefer to have the procedure performed under twilight sedation. The procedure usually takes less than one hour to complete. Patients will have some swelling and soreness for a few days. The day after the thread lift, most patients are able to camouflage any bruising that may have occurred during the procedure.
Are there any risks?
The thread lifts are very safe procedures. The risks of this procedure as with any procedure using a needle include bruising, swelling, and infection. If there are problems with the threads, the sutures can be removed, as is done with other suture material.
After the procedure:
In order to achieve the best results following the procedure, there are some practical care and precautions that must be followed. In order to avoid traumatizing or dislodging the threads from their supportive locations, it is recommended to avoid forceful facial rubbing, exaggerated and excessive movements of the face and neck, and it is recommended to sleep on your back. After 2 to 3 weeks, there are no more restrictions since the lift has set in place with your own tissues.
How long do the results last?
Although some of the sagging that occurred over the years is reversed with the thread lift procedure, the aging process continues. The rate of aging has to do with lifestyle habits, such as smoking, and sun exposure, and genetics. Most people will have acceptable results for 3 to 5 years with no adjuvant treatments.
Can I have Other procedures in the future?
The thread lift procedure does not interfere in anyway with subsequent cosmetic surgery and no special precaution is needed for your future procedures. In-fact the procedure is often combined with other cosmetic procedures to enhance and maintain the results.
Making your lift last
By combining non-surgical face lift procedures you can maintain your rejuvenated look without resorting to the knife. The most effective and simple combinations are Botox, Titan skin tightening lasers, Lev-Lite™ laser skin rejuvenation, and if needed, fat repositioning.
