Lipozap vs Liposuction

An explanation of the lipozap procedure and how it differs from liposuction

Over the past few years many non-surgical procedures that help reduce the appearance of fat and cellulite have become popular.  Some of these treatment methods include ultrasound devices, suction massage devices, infrared light laser treatments, radiofrequency devices and injection of fat dissolving chemicals into small pockets of fat. Although they are not a substitute for liposuction, they do offer an alternative solution for those who are not prepared or who do not qualify to undergo liposuction.

What Is Lipozap?

Lipozap is the latest craze in non-surgical fat reduction.  Lipozap combines mesotherapy, and the VelaSmooth machine to improve the contour of your body.  Mesotherapy is injections of lipo-dissolve or phosphatidylcholine into pockets of fat targeted for reduction. A series of four to nine injections are effective in reducing small pockets of fat, such as under the chin or jowls.  VelaSmooth is a combination of endermologie type suction massage, infrared light and bipolar radiofrequency that temporarily improve the skin and the contour of the body with a series of four to nine treatments.

Dermasonic vs. VelaSmooth vs. Endermologie

Endermologie is the first type of suction massage machines used to temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite and to conture the body. Dermasonic is a suction massage machine with ultrasonic treatment and VelaSmooth is a combination of the above. There are also other machines with different combinations of these modalities.  These machines have been used successfully in combination with mesotherapy to improve the results and to reduce the number of treatments needed. Dermasonic has an advantage of ultrasound, which helps to melt the fat and reduce the pain.

Lipozap vs. Liposuction

Lipozap is not a replacement for liposuction.  Lipozap can be a complementary treatment for those who are candidates for liposuction surgery. Liposuction is one of the safest of all cosmetic surgery procedures when done with local tumescent anesthesia. Most patients do not need to go under general anesthesia for a liposuction procedure and can resume their basic daily activities one day after the procedure.  Most patients will experience soreness and do not need anything other than Tylenol to help with the discomfort.  Usually patients can resume full activity, including sports, within two weeks of their procedure.  Lipozap may improve the results of the standard mesotherapy treatment with a series of four to nine treatments over a few weeks.  The injections will cause swelling and soreness similar to liposuction for a few days.  Lipozap results may be partly temporary and patients may need maintenance treatments to preserve their results.

Summary

Lipozap is a good treatment option for individuals with small areas of fat and who will be willing to undergo a series of treatments.  Lipozap is not a substitute for liposuction.
